MRS, in conjunction with the Kavli Foundation, has been conducting a series of MRS/Kavli Future of Materials workshops on important areas in materials research since 2016. The goal is to have a highly focused one-day workshop with approximately 30–45 participants focusing on brainstorming, collaboration, creativity, challenges and potential paths forward.
The general idea is to have a select group of invited speakers and participants, with time interspersed for in-depth discussions. The chairs of the workshops decide the format, select appropriate sub-areas and invite participants who are experts in these areas. The chairs are also encouraged to publish reviews and papers in MRS publications.
These workshops are scheduled adjacent to MRS Spring and Fall Meetings, with topics overlapping with some of the MRS symposia to promote a cross-fertilization of ideas.
